The Tibur Collection is quietly monumental and sculptural, carved from unfilled Italian Travertine block. This collection was inspired by the desire to create a work that emanates permanence and solidity. Named for the Latin translation for modern day Tivoli, the city where Italian Travertine originates, the Tibur collection expresses the inherent longevity of architecture and celebrates the craft and tradition of stone carving, resulting in a collection that will live through generations. Honouring the tradition of the past and signifying the creativity of a forward-looking design approach. Its material allows for a multi-purpose function that can live both indoor and outdoor. Its smooth and tactile form exudes restraint, longevity and permanence, while also balancing elements of timelessness and innovation and craft.
The newest additions to the Tibur collection include a monumental sculptural sofa and dining table, intended as an extension of the original concepts explored in the Tibur lounge.
The sofa evokes a quiet quality of awe and was designed to confidently balance on its tapered base. Each segment sits independently and can be configured as a singular two-seat sofa or as shown, in a large circular statement sofa.
The Tibur dining table is softly sculpted, evoking a dramatic play of light and shadow. We wanted to express and honour the inherent beauty of this classic material. The soft forms being a human quality to this otherwise tough material, recalling the monumentality of ancient Roman architecture.
When approaching this collection we kept in mind Roman philosophy, specifically Vitruvius’ attributes of good Architecture and Design: ‘strength, utility & beauty’. Applying theory to practice, the Tibur’s presence evokes a stoicism and temperance that embraces a sense of reflection and fortitude.
